GURU SHISHYA PARAMPARA (MASTER TO PUPIL TRADITION) SCHEME

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India launched a Scheme called ‘Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme’ through Zonal Cultural Centres to preserve and promote rare and vanishing art forms whether classical or folk/tribal so that the young talents be nurtured to acquire skills in their chosen field of art through some financial assistance by the ZCCs in the form of scholarship under the guidance of Experts and Masters in these fields.

To implement this scheme, Great Masters (Gurus) of different art form of constituent states of NZCC, who are capable to train the interested Shishyas are identified. The Committee is constituted to process, evaluate and recommend the candidature of Guru for financial assistance under this scheme.

A monitoring workshop-cum-presentation by Gurus and Shishyas is organised to review and evaluate the art forms on the basis of training imparted by the concerned Guru and level of learning by the Shishyas under this Scheme.

NZCC implemented this scheme in all its constituent States. About 461 Gurus; 562 Accompanists/Assistants and 2834 Shishyas in 160 extinct and dying folk/tribal art forms have been benefited upto the year 2024-25.

       The following art forms including vanishing/rare ones/folk instruments etc. have been covered under this Scheme:

 

(i) Himachal Pradesh: Khanjri Rubana, Mahasu Nati, Gangi & Mona Gayan, Folk Singing of HP with Ektara, Hudak, Ransingha, Thoda, Pahari Paintings, Dhaja, Chandravali Gayan, Chamba Rumal, Ghat Nritya, Gaddi Dance, Churahi Nritya, Gojri Nritya, Seentu Nritya, Moortikala, Kangra Paintings, Ghurehi Nritya, Dandaras Nritya, Dhuria Swang, Hudak Nritya, Bhagat & Karyala (Folk Theatre), Kinnauri Nati, Classical Music, Shehnai (Inst.), Kinnauri Veena (Inst.), Banthra (Folk Theatre), Thanka Painting etc.

 

(ii) U. T. Jammu & Kashmir: Sufiana Singing, Kud Dance, King Instrument, Bhakhan, Bhagta, Folk Singing of Kashmir, Dhamali Dance, Jatar & Kaark, Bhand Pather (Folk Theatre) and Geetru (Singing & Dance), Haran Dance, Daastan,  Bach-e-Nagma, Rabab (Inst.), Classical Music, Sarangi, Surnai (Inst.), Ladi Shah, Chinjan Gayan, Basoli Painting, Chhakri etc.

 

(iii) U.T. Ladakh: Surna, Damiyan, Flute, Kiupong, Daff (instru.); Folk Theatre, Folk Singing of Ladakh, Loser Dance (Leh) etc.

 

(iv) Punjab: Malwai Gidha, Tipri, Tumbi, Algoza, Lok Gatha, Bazigar, Bagdu, Gatka, Sammi, Naqqal, Ludi, Jhoomer, Sarangi, Sammi, Dhola, Bhand, Kavishar, Charkol Sketch, Rabab, Sufiana singing, Dilruba, Gurmat Sangeet, Traditional Craft, Nachhar, Folk Motifs, Dari & Khes weaving, Dhadi Gayan, Folk Paintings, Classical Music  etc.

 

(v) Haryana: Traditional Paintings of Haryana, Bamlehri, Dhamal, Sarangi, Nagara, Jogi gayan, Deepak Raas, Haryana Folk Art, Swang, Been, Bansuli, Been-Vanjali, Jangam, Gugga Dance, Deru, Toomba, Taasha, Matka, Sapera-Been, Haryanvi LokGayan, Benjo & Do-tara (Inst.), Folk Music, Classical Music, Sitar (Inst.), Lok Gatha, Deru (Inst.) etc.

 

(vi) U.T. Chandigarh: Dhad Sarangi, Folk theatre, Sufiana Kalam, Malwai Gidha, Dhola, Jhoomer, Embroidery, Weaving Craft (Jute), Puppetry, Folk Singing etc.

 

(vii) Rajasthan: Charri, Himalu Gayan, Kamiacha, Bhawai, Folk Paintings, Khadtal, Kuchamani Khayal, Traditional Folk Songs, Garasia Dance, Chang Nritya, Bhapang Vadan, Raavan Hatha (Inst.), Budhist Tanka Paintings, Mewati Gayan, Maand Gayaki, Tamasha (folk theatre)  etc.

 

(viii) Uttarakhand: Folk Art, Cholia, Folk singing of Uttaranchal, Folk Singing of Kamayun region, Clay art, Mask making, Thadiachofla, Kamauninritya, Jaunsari Nritya, Tharubuksa, Hudak (Inst.), Jaggergayan, Chanchrigayan, Dhol&Damau (Instr.), Garhwali Nritya, Chapeli Nritya, Mashak Been, Pandu Gayan, Folk Music, Aipan, Hiljatra, Classical Music, Lok Gatha etc.
