FOLK THEATRE

Pabuji-ki-Par is the famous folk theatre of Rajasthan. GAURI is another religious dance drama of the Bhils. The chief worshipper, the Bhoya, goes into a trance as he performs dance movements while others dance in circle around a Trishul to the rhythm created by beating of Parat and Thali. Dancers wear different dresses to represent different characters.

Another typical folk dance drama form is the KHAYAL of Rajasthan. It is believed to have an unbroken cultural tradition of four centuries Khayals are generally entertainment up to the remotest villages.

 

A unique and popular form of Rajasthan Theatre is puppet performances. They go a step further when through these puppets they enact scenes from the epics and day to day life. It gives a new dimension to Rajasthani folk theatre.
