The North Zone Cultural Center is located in Sheesh Mahal, Patiala. Patiala is the city of gardens and universities. And also it is princely (PEPSU) State.

Late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi inaugurated the North Zone Cultural Center on 6th Nov. 1985 the then Prime Minister of India. The Center has been registered under the registration of Societies Act 1860.

The North Zone Cultural Center is one of the seven cultural centers `established in the country to strengthen the ancient roots of Indian Culture and evolve and enrich composite National Culture. The center comprises regions from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan & Chandigarh (U.T.)

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this Society is to preserve, innovate and promote the projection of dissemination of arts of the Zone to develop and to promote the rich diversity and uniqueness of various arts of the Zone and to upgrade the enrich consciousness of the people about their cultural heritage. The North Zone Cultural Center also aims at lying special emphasis in its activities on the linkages among various areas through evolution of styles and their contribution to the larger composite identity of cultural heritage of India. NZCC also makes special efforts to encourage folk and tribal arts and to frame special programs for the preservation and strengthening of the vanishing art forms.

The arts that fall under the broad disciplines of Sangeet Natak Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, Sahitya Academy and to work for creative development of Zonal Cultural Center and for building up cohesion in the country. The center is working under the control of Deptt. of Culture, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Govt. of India.

DOCUMENTATION

U-MATIC / BETA CAM Though at a later stage, the importance of documentation to preserve, project and propagate. An emphasis was laid to document various arts and art forms, which were fast vanishing. The North Zone Cultural Centre has documented more than 150 different aspects of art & Culture, which include Museums, Fairs & Festivals, Great Masters, Folk Dances, important programmes, an ethnic rural aspects, also more than 50 documentaries have been telecast on DD-I on different issues involving art & culture.

CRAFTS FAIRS

Handicrafts has remained an integral part of almost all activities related to the human society through the ages. Mechanization and the changing social habits are bringing a certain lack of interest and initiative in the traditional crafts. In order to preserve and keep the traditional crafts impact, NZCC has organising several crafts fairs.

FINE ARTS

In the field of Fine Arts , attempts have been made to display different styles of Paintings and to make the artists and art lovers aware of the new forms. An effort has also been made to present some of lesser known art forms alongwith well established and well known forms of paintings of the tribal folk and traditional schools.
